Who are We

The United Nations Association of the Democratic Republic of Congo (UNA-DRC) is a non-governmental, non-political, non-partisan and secular organisation that works to inform the Congolese population about the ideals of peace, justice, human rights, and liberty contained within the United Nations Charter.

In most member states of the UN, there are Associations for the United Nations (ANU), which are grouped together in the World Federation of Associations for the United Nations (WFUNA).  In the Congo, UNA-DRC is known as ANU-RDC (Association pour les Nations Unies de la RDC), thus the reason our logo and web site uses both acronyms.

WFUNA was founded in 1946, one year after the United Nations.  The United Nations is the structure Interstate, WFUNA and ANUs represent a movement of peoples to support and promote the universal values of peace, social justice, human rights and development contained in the United Nations Charter.

The ANUs are not agencies or services of the United Nations let alone state of public institutions, but popular volunteer organizations for the Promotion of International solidarity between peoples, which Solidarity will be developed on the basis of ideals, principles and UN targets.

The ANU-RDC was founded in 1993. During the same year, it was registered by the Ministry of Justice of the DRC and then admitted as a member of the World Federation of Associations for the United Nations.

We are a member of the World Federation of United Nations Associations and enjoy Observer Status Category 1 at the UN Economic and Social Council.

As a member of the WFUNA, ANU-RDC enjoys Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC) which is part of the permanent organizations of the United Nations.
